Dissent
Dissent is a punk and crust band from the United States, based in Houston, Texas. It forms in 2005 as an anarcho-punk group and later shifts toward a more metal-influenced sound after Ben joins. The band plays intense crust and uses the line-up of Tom on vocals, Ben on guitars, Kenny on bass and Frank on drums. Former members include Stephen on drums and TJ on guitar.
History
The band adds a second guitarist, TJ, in early 2008. It tours in the south-western United States, California and Mexico, and in August 2009 it appears on the “Apocalyptic War Noise” tour with N.I.B.I.R.U. TJ leaves during that tour on good terms. In 2011, drummer Stephen leaves and Frank, who has played with N.I.B.I.R.U., War Master, PLF, Insect Warfare and Turbokrieg, joins on drums.
In 2012, Dissent tours the east coast with Czech grinders Needful Things. Across its activity, the band remains associated with crust, hardcore punk and punk rock.
Releases
Dissent releases a number of recordings on its own label and on other small labels. These include the demo Against All Oppression on cassette/CD-R in 2006, By Any Means Necessary on CD in 2007, Strength Through Chaos on CD in 2009, and Martyr of the Apocalypse on tape in 2009. It also issues split releases with Hellbastard in 2010, Hellisheaven in 2012, and Turbokrieg in 2012. The Hellbastard split appears on Torture Garden Picture Company, while the Turbokrieg split is a 12-inch release on the same label.
The band also releases splits with Hellisheaven from Poland and with Turbokrieg, a Houston band that shares members with Dissent. Its releases are issued through Dissent Records, MND Records, Torture Garden Picture Company and multiple labels.
