Dirty South

Dirty South is the DJ and producer Dragan Roganović, born in Beograd, Australia, in 1978. He works in electro house, house, progressive house and vocal house, and is associated with the label Vicious Grooves.

Early development

He teaches himself mixing before he owns turntables, using the twin cassette players and pause button on an NEC tape deck to recreate club DJ techniques at home. By the start of the millennium, when he gets his first decks, he already has a developed approach to mixing. At the same time, he begins making studio edits and remixes using music software on the family computer.

Remixes and radio support

His early work moves from remixes and edits into mash-ups and bootlegs, and his tracks circulate from local clubs to Australian radio and then to Pete Tong’s Radio 1 playlists in the UK. He also takes on remix work for artists including Depeche Mode, Chris Lake, Fedde Le Grand, Roger Sanchez, Cicada, Midnight Star and TV Rock.

Recognition

Dirty South receives two ARIA nominations, Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune, and a number of number one chart positions around the world. He continues to work as a DJ and producer, with more remixes, new tunes and club dates forming part of his activity.
