Dick Miles

Dick Miles is a songwriter, composer and folk singer who performs traditional material alongside his own songs. He sings and plays English concertina, and later also uses guitar and five-string banjo. He is born in Blackheath, London, and lives in Ireland, having lived for many years in Suffolk before that.

Recording work and repertoire

Miles records six vinyl LPs and four CDs, and he also writes two concertina tutors and a book of his own songs. His style is described as distinctive, and his playing and singing are shaped by traditional singers while remaining recognisably his own. His early LPs feature clarinettist Sue Weir and guitarists Martin Carthy, Jez Lowe and Richard Grainger.

Collaborations and group work

He works occasionally with Teesside songwriter Richard Grainger. Between 1984 and 1987, he is a member of The New Mexborough Concertina Quartet, with whom he records an LP, Plant Life.

Activity and online presence

Miles tours the UK periodically and posts music videos online under the name dickmilesmusic. He is also associated with a Myspace account. He is not the same person who recorded The Last Goodbye.
