Dexter in the Newsagent is the London-based singer-songwriter Charmaine Ayoku. She develops music that sits between indie-pop, indie-acoustic writing, hushed balladry and dance-pop, with a soft, intimate style and a folk-leaning edge.

She begins releasing and developing tracks during the early days of lockdown, building a catalogue of gentle, emotive songs. Among her singles is “With u”, and her EP Fortune Cookie adds to her body of work. She also works with other artists on collaborations.

Her single “Special” receives Best New Track recognition from Pitchfork for its production and atmosphere. She also has a substantial streaming audience, with more than 343,000 monthly Spotify listeners.
