Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows
Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, commonly known as D.R.U.G.S., is an American post-hardcore supergroup from Pontiac, United States. The group forms in late 2009 and 2010 and remains active. It is associated with alternative hardcore and post-hardcore, and it releases music through Velocity Records.
Formation and early line-up
The project begins after Craig Owens leaves Chiodos. Its membership is introduced through a series of video updates on Owens’ official YouTube page. The original line-up includes Craig Owens on lead vocals, Aaron Stern on drums, Nick Martin on guitar and vocals, Matt Good on guitar and vocals, and Adam Russell on bass. A later line-up also includes Jona Weinhofen on guitars and Aaron Patrick on bass.
Early releases and live debut
The band plays its first live shows to sold-out crowds at the Pike Room inside The Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan, on 28 and 29 November 2010. Its first recorded release is “If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is,” issued on 11 November 2010. This is followed by “Mr. Owl Ate My Metal Worm” in December 2010, then “Sex Life,” which serves as the first single from the debut album. Another track, “My Swagger Has a First Name,” is made available to pre-order customers.
Debut album and split
The band’s self-titled debut album appears in 2011, originally through Decaydance/Sire Records and later associated with a release through the same album cycle. After Adam Russell leaves in January 2012, the group breaks up later that year when Owens returns to Chiodos and the remaining members step away. Owens also leaves D.R.U.G.S., ending that incarnation of the band.
Reformation and later activity
Activity resumes in 2020 when Owens confirms that D.R.U.G.S. is returning. In 2021 the band signs to Velocity Records. Around the same period, Jona Weinhofen joins as guitarist and Aaron Patrick joins as bassist. The group releases “Destiny” in 2022 with Owens, Weinhofen and Patrick in the line-up.
