Demdike Stare

Demdike Stare is a Manchester-based duo active since 2009. It consists of Sean Vinylment and Miles Whittaker. The project works within ambient dub and electronic music, and is also associated with dark ambient, experimental, drone and dub.

Background and members

Sean Whittaker is also known as Modern Love's DJ MLZ and as one half of Pendle Coven. Sean Canty is the person behind the Haxan events and is part of the Finders Keepers crew. The project is described as an occult collaboration, with an emphasis on collected and obscure sounds.

Releases and style

Demdike Stare's records draw on cult soundtracks, Arabesque dub and psychotomimetic ephemera, with a Lancastrian influence. Their releases include Symbiosis, Liberation Through Hearing, Voices of Dust and Forest of Evil. In 2011, Liberation Through Hearing, Voices of Dust and Forest of Evil are compiled as Tryptych.

Their releases feature cover design by Andy Votel. The group releases music on DDS.
