Deez Nuts

Deez Nuts are a hardcore punk, metal and rapcore group from Melbourne, Australia, formed by J.J. Peters after the split of Australian melodic metalcore band I Killed The Prom Queen. Peters starts the project after leaving his previous band, where he is the drummer, and the act develops from a solo idea into a full touring group.

Formation and early releases

The band begins activity in 2007 and tours Australia in that year. In January 2008, Deez Nuts tours with Silverstein, alongside Set Your Goals, The Amity Affliction and Capsize. Their debut EP, Rep Your Hood, appears in August 2008, followed later that year by a second Australian tour. That tour includes Michael Crafter and his band Confession and is billed as the “Back on the Streets Tour”.

Live activity and collaborations

In October 2008, Deez Nuts tours Europe with Bring Me The Horizon, The Red Shore and Ignominious Incarceration. Peters also provides guest vocals on Bring Me The Horizon’s “Football Season is Over”, from Suicide Season, and on The Amity Affliction’s “Stairway to Hell”, from Severed Ties. These guest appearances connect the band to the Australian and UK heavy music scenes around hardcore, metalcore and rap-inflected metal.

Line-up

By 2008, Deez Nuts have permanent members including ex-I Killed The Prom Queen bass player Sean Kennedy, who remains part of the group until his death in February 2021. The listed line-up also includes Matt Rogers on guitar and Alex Salinger on drums, with later membership also including Ty Alexander, Stuart Callinan, Jon Green and Jon Green.

Debut album and side project

The band releases its debut album, Stay True, in 2008. Peters also reveals a separate rap project with Louie Knuxx called Grips & Tonic, showing his work across both hardcore and rap-oriented music.
