De Rosa

De Rosa are a Scottish indie rock band from Bellshill, Scotland, formed in the early 2000s by main songwriter Martin John Henry. The group is active from 2001 to 2009, and its line-up includes James Woodside on bass, Neil Woodside on drums, Chris Connick on guitar and Andrew Bush on piano. The band is associated with indie folk, indie rock and shoegaze, and its sound also draws on slowcore, Scottish folk and electronic music.

Signed to Glasgow label Chemikal Underground Records, De Rosa release their debut album, Mend, in 2006. In 2008, the band puts out a new track each month for free download, later collecting the twelve songs as Appendices. Its second album, Prevention, follows in 2009, also on Chemikal Underground.

De Rosa are known for guitar-led songs shaped by Henry’s personal lyrics, delivered in a Scottish accent and often referring to the social history of Lanarkshire, his home county. Over time, the band’s live set expands to include more synthesisers and drum machines, moving its sound away from the guitar-based style of the debut material and towards a mix of electronic and traditional forms.

The band disbands in 2009.
