David Grant is a British pop singer and vocal coach from the United Kingdom. He is born in 1956 and comes from Hackney, London.

Music career

Grant first becomes known in the early 1980s as a member of the UK soul and funk duo Linx, whose biggest hit is the 1981 single “Intuition”. He later begins a solo career in 1983 and scores a Top 40 hit with “Stop and Go”.

His other solo chart entries include “Watching You Watching Me” and two collaborations with Jaki Graham. “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” reaches UK number 5 in 1985, and “Mated” reaches UK number 20 later the same year.

Session and coaching work

Grant also works as a session singer for artists including Diana Ross and The Lighthouse Family. He becomes widely known, along with his wife Carrie Grant, as a vocal coach on the BBC television talent show Fame Academy and its spin-off Comic Relief does Fame Academy.

He also works with a number of UK pop acts, including Take That, S Club, Will Young, Atomic Kitten, Mel C, Lemar, Charlotte Church and Joss Stone.

Television appearances

Beyond music coaching, Grant appears regularly as a panelist on the Five debate programme The Wright Stuff. He also appears in the BBC series The Sound of Musicals in 2006, and on BBC’s Masterchef the same year. He is also a judge on the BBC1 talent show The One and Only.

Children’s television

In 2008, Grant and Carrie Grant host the CBeebies programme Carrie and David’s Popshop.
