David Ford is a UK singer-songwriter from Dartford, Kent, born in 1978. He is also a guitarist and songwriter. He first comes to prominence as part of the indie rock group Easyworld, who disband in 2004.

Solo career

Ford records his debut solo album, I Sincerely Apologise For All the Trouble I've Caused, on his own in a cellar flat in Eastbourne during 2005, initially treating the sessions as demos. The recordings lead to management by magnoliaMAM and then to the album being licensed as a full release in the UK and later in the USA and other territories. The record receives strong critical notice and appears on year-end best-of lists in publications including the LA Times, The Sunday Times, The New York Post, The Word and The Toronto Star.

He tours widely across the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia in 2006. In live performance, he uses a looping pedal to layer vocals, guitars, percussion and keyboards, particularly on the song “State Of The Union”.

Ford’s second album, Songs For The Road, appears in 2007. Let The Hard Times Roll follows in 2010, alongside touring in the UK and the US. In 2011 he publishes his autobiography, I Choose This, which covers his musical life from school through to solo touring in the United States.

Style and reception

His writing is described as honest and melodically strong, and he is compared with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, James Taylor and Elton John. The LA Times describes his approach in terms of the English singer-songwriter tradition and notes the intensity of his performance.
