David Byrne & St. Vincent

David Byrne & St. Vincent is a collaboration between David Byrne, the former frontman of Talking Heads, and Annie Clark, who performs as St. Vincent. The pair begins working together in late 2009 and develops material for the album Love This Giant using a process Byrne has previously used on his 2008 collaboration with Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

Love This Giant

Love This Giant is recorded in Hoboken, New Jersey over a two-year period and contains 10 songs co-written by Byrne and Clark, with each artist also writing one additional track alone. The duo has already played together live at a St. Vincent show and on the album Here Lies Love.

Live band and promotion

For the album’s promotional work, the pair works with a digital promotions company to distribute the single “Who” and provide embeddable streaming widgets. Their touring band includes eight brass players led by Kelly Pratt of Bright Moments, St. Vincent’s keyboardist Daniel Mintseris, and My Brightest Diamond drummer Brian Wolfe. Onstage, the performance uses complex choreography, echoing the approach used on Byrne’s earlier Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno tour.
