Dave
Dave is a Dutch Francophone singer from the Netherlands, born in 1944 in Amsterdam. He sings in French and is associated with chanson française and pop. He is also part of Les Enfoirés.
Career
He appears in the musical Godspell from 1971 to 1974, during which he becomes friends with actor Daniel Auteuil. In 1974, he releases his first hit, Trop Beau, a French version of The Rubettes’ Sugar Baby Love. His first number-one single in France is Vanina, an adaptation of Del Shannon’s Runaway with French lyrics by Patrick Loiseau.
In 1975, he follows this with the hits Mon cœur est malade, Dansez maintenant and Du côté de chez Swann. His first self-titled album is released at the end of 1975. By that period, he has major success in France and Belgium, and Dansez maintenant also reaches number one in the Netherlands. Later hits include Lettre à Hélène (1978), Comment ne pas être amoureux de vous (1978) and Allo Elisa (1979).
His popularity declines in the 1980s, but he continues to attract audiences through live performances.
