Dan Deacon

Dan Deacon is an electronic music composer and performer from West Babylon, United States. Born in 1981, he is based in Baltimore, Maryland and is associated with electronic, experimental electronic, glitch, indietronica, neo-psychedelia and post-minimalism.

Background

Deacon attends the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in Purchase, New York, where he plays in a number of bands. At college he plays tuba for Langhorne Slim and guitar in the improvisational grindcore band Rated R. He later completes graduate study in electro-acoustic and computer music composition and studies under composer and conductor Joel Thome.

Style and scene

His work is described as part of the “future shock” style associated with a group of Baltimore acts that includes Videohippos, Santa Dads, Blood Baby, Ecstatic Sunshine and Ponytail. He is also based at Wham City in Baltimore.

Performance

In February 2008, Deacon performs at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
