Dam-Funk is a funk and hip hop artist from Pasadena, United States, based in the Culver City area of Los Angeles. He is known for work rooted in boogie, modern soul and electro-funk, and for a style he describes as modern funk.

Style and background

Dam-Funk builds his music around early 1980s influences, including boogie, modern soul and electro-funk. His sound draws on artists and labels associated with funk and dance music such as Slave, Aurra, early Prince and Prelude Records, alongside more obscure contemporaries from the same period. He uses vintage synthesizers and drum machines to shape synth- and bass-led tracks that continue the West Coast funk tradition in a contemporary form.
