Crusade

Crusade is a group from Brooklyn, New York, active from 1999 to 2006. The band forms around Lawrence Susi, who previously plays bass in New York hardcore group Breakdown and co-founds Sub Zero.

Background and sound

Crusade is formed, in Susi’s words, as a reaction to what is happening around it. The music is described through songs that mix hardcore roots with a wider range of influences, drawing on New York hardcore, punk and metal references. The live set and recordings include material such as “Church And State”, “Bloodletting”, “Morbidly Festive”, “Perpetual Care” and “Between Heaven And Hell”.

Recording history

The band’s only official recorded release is The Beauty Within The Decay from 2003, limited to one thousand copies. Songs associated with that release include “All Is Lost”, “The Hand You Cannot Sever” and the title track. Other songs noted from the band’s repertoire include “Burn Like Rome” and “Gardenia”.

Personnel and influences

Lawrence Susi is the key figure named in connection with the group. The material is linked in description to a wide set of influences, including TSOL, Love and Rockets, Minor Threat, Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, Danzig, Ministry, K.K. Downing, Van Dyke Parks and Kevin Shields.
