Crowbar

Crowbar is a heavy metal band from New Orleans, United States, active since 1988. The group is known for a sludge metal sound that combines slow, heavy doom metal with the aggression of hardcore punk, and it is associated with the New Orleans heavy metal scene that helps define the style. The band is fronted by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Kirk Windstein, who is the only constant member.

Style and influence

Crowbar is linked to the development of sludge metal in New Orleans. Its music draws on doom metal and heavy metal, with a pace and weight that sit alongside harder, punk-influenced attack. Windstein has said he dislikes the term sludge metal, even though the band is widely identified with it.

Cover versions

The group also records songs from outside its core genre. Its covers include Gary Wright’s “Dream Weaver” on Equilibrium, Iron Maiden’s “Remember Tomorrow” on Odd Fellows Rest, and Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” on Crowbar.
