Cristian Varela is a Spanish techno DJ and producer, born in 1975. He uses the aliases Carlos Duran, Chris Vareland and The Unknown Artist for Black Codes releases.
Career
He works in techno, with connections to hard techno, minimal techno and tribal techno. Varela is known for his technical DJ style and for fast mixing using three decks, and sometimes four. He is recognised for aggressive mixing and for his work as a producer as well as a DJ.
Labels and projects
In 2001, he founds Pornographic Recordings with Marco Bailey. Pornographic Recordings is a key part of his career, alongside his Black Codes imprint. He also appears on Primate and on his own labels.
