Criolo

Criolo is the stage name of Kleber Gomes Cavalcante, a Brazilian rapper and singer from São Paulo, Brazil, born in 1975. He works within Brazilian music, hip-hop and rap, and is also associated with samba and MPB.

Career

He begins rapping in São Paulo in 1989 and remains little known until the early 2000s. In 2006, he releases his first studio album, Ainda há tempo. That same year, he founds the Rinha dos MC's, a venue and cultural space that hosts weekly shows as well as graffiti, photography exhibitions and freestyle sessions.

In 2008, he wins both “Song of the Year” and “Person of the Year” at the fourth edition of O Rap é compromisso. To mark twenty years of his career, he records a live DVD at the Rinha dos MC's, issued in 2010 as Criolo Doido Live in SP.
