Creed

Creed is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida, formed in 1994. It develops a sound associated with post-grunge, alternative rock, hard rock, and grunge, and becomes one of the most commercially successful rock acts of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Career

For most of its existence, the group consists of singer Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips. Its first three studio albums are My Own Prison (1997), Human Clay (1999), and Weathered (2001). The first two achieve major commercial success despite poor critical reception, and Human Clay is certified diamond by the RIAA. Marshall leaves the band in 2000, and Tremonti plays bass guitar on Weathered.

Human Clay includes the Billboard Hot 100 number one single “With Arms Wide Open”, which also wins the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. The album remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Creed sells over 28 million records in the United States and over 53 million albums worldwide, and is the ninth best-selling musical act of the 2000s.

Breakups and reunions

Creed disbands in 2004. Stapp continues as a solo artist, while Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillips form Alter Bridge with Myles Kennedy. The band reunites in 2009 and releases Full Circle the same year, then separates again in 2012. After an eleven-year hiatus, Creed reunites again in July 2023.

Later activity

Creed continues as a reunited act and is associated with the Summer of '99 cruise festival, which it headlines in 2024.
