Crazy P
Crazy P is a Nottingham-based British dance music group active since 1995. The act is known for deep house and nu disco, and was formerly called Crazy Penis. The current membership includes Danielle Moore, James Baron, Tim Davies, Matt Klose and Chris Todd. The group is associated with Walk Don't Walk Limited.
Formation and early releases
The group forms in Nottingham in 1995 as a production partnership between Chris Todd and Jim Baron. Its early work grows out of a period of bedroom production using Atari and Akai equipment, and it develops by reworking older records from a range of genres. After releases under different names, the project attracts the attention of Manchester label Paper Recordings and takes the name Crazy P.
Albums, line-up and live work
The band's first four albums are A Nice Hot Bath With, The Wicked Is Music, 24 Psychedelic Freakout and A Night On Earth. The addition of live members Tim Davies and Matt Klose, together with Danielle Moore on vocals, helps establish the group’s live profile. Crazy P builds a reputation through a combination of arranged songs and energetic performances, playing both large outdoor festival stages in Australia and smaller club settings in East London, while staying connected to late-1990s house, disco and soul scenes.
Later releases and collaborations
In 2008 the group signs to 2020 Vision and releases Stop Space Return. The title track becomes a notable part of both DJ sets and the live show. The record also leads to remixes and interest from artists including Jamie Jones, Wolf and Lamb, Reboot and KiNK, as well as pop acts such as VV Brown, Empire of the Sun and Sam Sparro. In 2011 the group releases Crazy P presents MTS Vol.1, a two-track EP shaped by its increasingly busy DJ and soundsystem schedule, while also finishing its sixth album When We On.
