Craig Taborn
Craig Taborn is a jazz musician and composer from Minneapolis, United States, born in 1970. He plays piano, organ and Moog synthesizer, and his work is centred on jazz while also extending into dark ambient and techno.
Work as a bandleader and recording artist
Taborn leads the Craig Taborn Trio and has albums as a leader including Craig Taborn Trio, Light Made Lighter, Junk Magic and Avenging Angel. He also records on Light Made Lighter Music. His album Junk Magic appears in his festival performance history, when he performs it in full at the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2007.
Collaborations and ensembles
He works with a wide range of musicians across jazz and improvised music, including Chris Potter, Nate Smith, Gerald Cleaver, Lotte Anker, Drew Gress, James Carter, Wayne Krantz, Adam Rogers and Tim Berne. He also plays with members of The Bad Plus and appears in the Susie Ibarra Trio.
His broader ensemble work includes Innerzone Orchestra, Tim Berne’s Hard Cell, Chris Lightcap’s Bigmouth, James Carter Quartet, Dan Weiss Starebaby, Hugh Ragin Trumpet Ensemble, Roscoe Mitchell Quintet, Farmers by Nature, Mat Maneri Quartet, Rob Brown Ensemble, Rob Brown Trio, Roscoe Mitchell and the Note Factory, Rocket Science, Trio of Bloom, Chris Potter's Underground and Wadada Leo Smith’s Silver Orchestra. He also records a collaboration album with David Torn, Tim Berne and Tom Rainey titled Prezens.
