Coves

Coves is a UK indie duo made up of Rebekah Wood and John Ridgard. The group forms in 2011 and continues to be active. It plays a mix of indie pop and indie rock, with a psychedelic garage pop sound and references to psychedelic and garage rock.

Origins

Wood and Ridgard meet while working at a music venue in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England. They know each other for several years before deciding to form a band together after a night out. The name Coves comes from an old-fashioned word meaning “good friend”.

Style and influences

The duo draws on 1960s garage rock, along with the work of Martin Hannett, Phil Spector and Joe Meek. Rebekah Wood sings vocals, while John Ridgard plays instruments and is described as a multi-talented instrumentalist.
