Conforce

Conforce is the electronic project of Boris Bunnik, a producer from the Netherlands who comes from Terschelling, a northern island in the country. His work sits in ambient techno, dub techno, IDM, minimal techno, tech house and techno, and it draws on early Chicago house, especially Larry Heard, alongside 1990s Detroit and UK techno, Berlin dub and the sound associated with labels such as Planet E, Warp, B12 and Applied Rhythmic Technology. The result is a style described as warm, melodic and moody.

Releases and labels

Bunnik begins releasing music under the Conforce name with 12-inch records on Rush Hour in 2007 and 2008. He follows those with singles on Modelisme and Curle in 2009, then issues the fifth 12-inch and his first album, Machine Conspiracy, on Meanwhile in 2010. Later that year he signs to Delsin, which releases the Grace EP, followed by the Dystopian Elements EP and the album Escapism in 2011.

Clone releases the State of Mind EP in 2011 and 24 in 2012. Conforce returns to Delsin in 2013 for the Time Dilation EP and the more ambient, experimental album Kinetic Image, then follows with the Depth Over Distance EP in 2014. In 2015, Travelogue appears on Transcendent and Presentism, his fourth full-length, is released on Delsin.

Style

Bunnik is noted as a skilled synthesist, and the Conforce catalogue develops a sound that combines dub-influenced atmosphere with detailed techno programming, melodic structures and restrained, reflective arrangements.
