Conan

Conan is a doom metal group from Liverpool, United Kingdom, active since 2006. The band is associated with UK doom, sludge metal and stoner metal, and it describes its sound as “Caveman battle doom”.

Formation and line-up

Conan begins as a two-piece in 2006 before expanding to a trio. The line-up includes Jon Davis on guitar and vocals, Phil Coumbe on bass and vocals, and Paul O’Neill on drums. Other members listed for the group are John McNulty, Rich Lewis, Chris Fielding, Johnny King and David Ryley.

Releases

The band’s recorded output begins with the 2007 EP Battle in the Swamp. It follows with Horseback Battle Hammer in 2010 on Throne, then a split release with Northern Irish band Slomatics in 2011 on Head of Crom and Burning World. Conan’s first full-length album, Monnos, is released in 2012 on Burning World Records.

After Monnos, the band plays Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, and the performance is issued as the live album Mount Wrath: Live at Roadburn 2012. A split with Bongripper follows in 2013. The second studio album, Blood Eagle, is released in 2014, and the third studio album, Revengeance, appears in 2016.
