Coltsblood

Coltsblood is a doom metal and sludge metal group from Liverpool, active since 2010. The band forms around heavy, slow and abrasive music, and its work is also described in relation to funeral doom and black metal.

History

Coltsblood forms in Liverpool in 2010, but does not begin to surface publicly until 2013. In that year it self-records and releases a demo tape, Beyond the Lake of Madness, which later appears on vinyl through Ulthar Records. The band also records and self-releases a four-track cassette split with Crypt Lurker, which includes a cover of Celtic Frost’s “Procreation (Of The Wicked)”.

During its early period, Coltsblood plays with a range of acts in the UK underground, including Indesinence, Vomitor and Watain.

Recording and releases

In September 2013, Coltsblood enters Skyhammer Studio with Chris Fielding, whose credits include Primordial, Winterfylleth, Napalm Death and Electric Wizard, to record its first full-length album, Into The Unfathomable Abyss. The album is mastered by James Plotkin, known for work with Khanate, SunnO))), Indesinence and Isis. The band uses artwork created by bassist, vocalist and artist Eric C Harrison, chosen because of a long-standing respect for the band Grief.

Coltsblood signs to Candlelight Records for the release of Into the Unfathomable Abyss in 2014.
