Collie Buddz

Collie Buddz is a reggae artist born Colin Patrick Harper. He is born in New Orleans, United States, and is raised in Bermuda. His work sits within dancehall, reggae and reggae-pop, and his style is rooted in 1990s conscious and dancehall reggae.

Career

Buddz is best known for the single Come Around. He studies audio engineering at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, and launches his own label, Harper Digital Publishing.

He appears on Shaggy’s 2007 album Intoxication on the track “Mad Mad World”. He also performs “SOS” on WWE The Music, Vol. 8, where it serves as the entrance theme for wrestler Kofi Kingston. In 2009, he appears on a remix of Kid Cudi’s single “Day 'n' Nite”.

Style and influences

Buddz’s music uses beats and vocal approaches associated with 1990s reggae and dancehall. His influences include the lyrical clashes and dubplates of sound clash culture, especially the work of Kilimanjaro. He also names Buju Banton as an artist he particularly admires, and cites Mr. Mention among his favourite albums.

Live work

He builds a large touring profile and sells out venues across the United States and internationally. His festival appearances include Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Summer Jam, Reggae on the Rocks, California Roots Festival, UCLA JazzReggae, Seattle City Arts Festival and the Marley Family’s 9 Mile Music Festival.
