Colin Hudd

Colin Hudd is a DJ and producer associated with soul, funk and house music. He begins as a mobile DJ in 1971 and holds early residencies at The Monica on Canvey Island from 1976, at Wings in Gravesend End for a year from 1977, and then at Goldmine after passing an audition. He keeps the Goldmine residency until 1981. From 1978 to 1987 he has a long residency at Flicks, which becomes one of the defining runs of his career.

By the mid-1980s he is already working with the developing house music sound, which he recognises early despite resistance around him. He is established in soul and funk clubs and wins the Blues & Soul club DJ award. His work leads him on to major club and event appearances including Heaven, Legends, Ministry of Sound, World Dance, Pure Sex, and Spectrum/Land of Oz. At Spectrum he works alongside Paul Oakenfold, and the two later support U2 on the Zooropa tour.

Hudd also develops a production career. He works under the names Manic MCs and Audio Deluxe, and he remixes artists including PP Arnold and Billy Idol. He moves to Singapore in 1994 to open the Velvet Underground, then plays in New York at The Palladium. He later plays at venues and events including Pacha in Ibiza, an Olympic stadium, Berlin and Dublin’s Pod.
