Cocktail Slippers

Cocktail Slippers are a Norwegian all-female rock’n’roll group from Oslo, active since 2001. They are known for combining girl-group harmonies and vocal attitude with gritty rock ’n’ roll, and for mixing garage rock, hard rock and surf pop into a restless, hook-driven sound.

Style and sound

The group’s music brings together sweet and sour elements: harmony vocals, sass and a hard-edged guitar approach. Their material is described as non-standard garage hard rock and surf-pop rather than a straightforward female counterpart to early hard-rocking Blondie. Individual songs show different sides of that blend, from strutting rock with cowbell to pop-led tracks and songs that suggest a meeting point between the Ronettes and the Ramones.

Recording and label history

Their CD is one of the first releases on Steven Van Zandt’s label, placing the group early in that imprint’s catalogue. Their recorded work is presented as a set of hooky pop songs that still rock, with tracks such as “Stop,” “Who You Are” and “My Man” singled out for their different references and arrangements.
