Cloud Nothings
Cloud Nothings are an American indie rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. The group forms around singer-songwriter Dylan Baldi and, in its current lineup, includes Baldi on vocals and guitar, Jayson Gerycz on drums, and Chris Brown on bass, with Joe Boyer also listed among the members. The band begins in 2009 as a solo project, with Baldi recording vocals and instruments in his parents’ basement while also performing live with a full band.
Recordings and label history
Cloud Nothings release their early material through Washington, D.C.-based Carpark Records before later signing to Pure Noise Records. Their first full-length studio album, also titled Cloud Nothings, is their second LP overall and appears in 2011. The band’s breakthrough record, Attack on Memory, follows in 2012. Further studio albums include Here and Nowhere Else, Life Without Sound, Last Building Burning, The Black Hole Understands, Life Is Only One Event, and The Shadow I Remember. After signing to Pure Noise Records, they issue the single “Final Summer”, which is later revealed as the title track to their ninth studio album.
Style and influences
The band is associated with indie rock, noise rock, post-hardcore and punk rock. Their music also sits within the broader indie and lo-fi sphere. Dylan Baldi cites influences including Wipers, the Lemonheads, the Forms, Life Without Buildings, Women, No Age, Deerhunter, Black Sabbath, Nina Hagen, Killdozer, Zounds, Thin Lizzy and Swell Maps.
