1) Clodhopper was formed in Missoula, Montana in 1995 by Danny Pearson, and local record store owner Tim Bierman. Together, with a revolving rhythm section which included the husband-wife team Justin and Anne Stark and Montana native Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, Clodhopper brought its hard driving hillbilly sounds to the local logger bars and punk clubs as well as to theatres and clubs on the West Coast. They opened for such diverse acts as Emmylou Harris, Richard Buckner, 16 Horsepower, and Dave Alvin, endearing themselves with their rough takes on old tunes and harsh ballads played in stark modal tunings.
