CHXRRY

CHXRRY is a Canadian R&B artist from Toronto, born in 1997, who works in alternative R&B and R&B. She is known under the earlier name Chxrry22, with the “22” originally linked to her signing with XO Records in 2022. She later drops that suffix as it no longer reflects her stage of artistic and personal development.

Early life and background

Born and raised in Toronto, CHXRRY begins singing in childhood at birthday parties and weddings. Her parents both sing in a choir, and music becomes part of her early life through that family background.

Career

In 2017, self-recorded cover songs that she posts to social media go viral and lead to a recording deal with XO Records. She becomes the first female artist to join The Weeknd’s creative group. Working with full control over her creative direction, she releases the singles Call Me and The Falls, both of which draw attention from the R&B community.

She later moves to Atlanta and works on her debut EP The Other Side with producer Sensei Bruno, who has credits including Snoh Aalegra and Kid Cudi, and songwriter Daijah Ross, who has worked with Baby Rose and Eli Derby. In 2022, she performs a cover of The Weeknd’s Sacrifice. She also releases Worlds Away, which uses the R&B sample CLF_80_Keys_TapePiano_Fm.
