Chuckie

Chuckie is the stage name of Clyde Narain, a Surinamese DJ and producer from Paramaribo, Netherlands, born in 1978. He works in Dutch house, electro house, electronic and house, and is associated with Dirty Dutch Music.

Background and style

Raised in Paramaribo, he starts out by playing records from a young age and begins DJing at events organised by friends. He becomes known as DJ Chuckie through club and event appearances. His work is marked by energetic mixing, a crossover approach across genres, and a style that combines house with other dance music influences. He is also associated with deep house sets.

Releases and collaborations

Chuckie releases the Dirty Dutch Propaganda album in 2006 in collaboration with EMI Music Canada, followed by a second part later the same year. Among the tracks linked with him are Let the bass kick, Any noise, Rides and Pong to this. He also works with Gregor Salto on Toys are nuts and with Hardwell on Guess What.

DJ work and events

He hosts residencies including Blacklist and his own Dirty Dutch event. As the figurehead of Dirty Dutch, he presents a Dirty Dutch area at Mysteryland. He appears at major Dutch events including Luxurush, T-Dansant, Indian Summer Festival, Loveland Festival, Heineken Fast Forward Parade, Mysteryland and Sensation White in 2008. He also performs regularly in countries including England, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, France, the Canary Islands, Curaçao, Morocco, Turkey, Suriname, Portugal and Spain. David Guetta invites him to play at Pacha in Ibiza in 2008.

Recognition and charity

Chuckie receives several awards, including Best Urban DJ in 2004 and Best Club DJ Award the following year. He is nominated for a Dutch TMF Award in 2006 alongside Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and G Spotts in the Best Dance category. Outside his DJ career, he acts as ambassador for UNICEF Den Haag, the integration plan “&” and the Red Cross initiative B the change, for which he produces a single inspired by quotations from Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
