Christmas

Christmas is an 80s Boston indie rock group from Boston, United States, active from 1983 to 1991. The band’s members are Michael Cudahy, Nicholas Cudahy, Peter Dixon, James McNew and Dan Salzmann.

Style and recordings

The group is described as classical in genre, and the wider artist name is also used by several other acts in different countries and styles. In the Boston indie rock context, Christmas records three albums of quirky neo-psychedelic pop in the late 1980s.

Key releases

The band’s debut album is In Excelsior Dayglo, released in 1986. It includes “Big Plans”, which becomes a modest college radio and MTV hit. Christmas then relocates to Las Vegas, signs to I.R.S., and releases Ultraprophets of Thee Psykick Revolution in 1989. That album includes “Stupid Kids” and “Richard Nixon”, the latter drawing critical attention. The band records Vortex in 1991, but it does not find a label until 1993, by which time the band’s momentum has passed.
