Chris Stussy
Chris Stussy is a Dutch DJ, producer and label owner working in house and electronic music. He comes from the Netherlands and is associated with the Across Boundaries project. His sound draws on early house music as well as raw production, with influences from jazz, disco and Chicago styles.
Career
Stussy emerges through a run of attention-grabbing house tracks and remains active in the house scene as a producer and selector. His releases appear on labels including Djebali, Moscow, Eastenderz, LOCUS and PIV. He also works as in-house A&R at PIV, where he looks for new talent.
As a DJ, he plays a range of settings, from large stages at Awakenings to underground clubs such as Watergate in Berlin, fabric in London, Fuse in Brussels and Elrow in Barcelona. He also tours in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South America, and performs regularly in Amsterdam venues.
Style and releases
His productions are described as late-night house cuts with strong drums and a smooth, flexible bassline. Remixes for artists including Kerri Chandler use vocal samples and synth textures. His work is characterised by a recognisable house sound that continues to develop while staying rooted in club music.
Label work
Stussy launches Up The Stuss as a vinyl-focused label for his own releases and those of close collaborators. The label issues forward-looking club productions from across electronic music and adds to his role as both artist and A&R.
