Chorusgirl

Chorusgirl is a London-based group that makes noisepop, combining jangle, noise, surf influences, girl-group melodies and alternative rock into a dense, shimmering sound. The band is built around Silvi Wersing, who starts the project after years of playing bass for other people’s music and then decides to front her own songs. The name reflects that shift, with the idea that introverts and chorus girls can take centre stage.

Formation and line-up

Wersing begins writing songs and forms the band in early 2014 in London. The original line-up includes Caroline on guitar, Udo on bass and Mike on drums. In the summer of 2014, Diogo replaces Caroline on guitar, although Caroline still appears occasionally in live duets with Wersing and contributes vocals.

Sound and themes

The group’s music draws on a range of indie and alternative reference points, including Lush, The Cure, The Breeders, Pulp and The Bangles. Its songs mix melody with distortion and a pop sensibility with abrasive textures. The lyrics are personal in tone and often focus on loss, surrender, heartache and anger, with those emotions set against noisy instrumentation and an upbeat surface.
