Children Of Bodom
Children Of Bodom are a Finnish melodic death metal band from Espoo, active from 1997 to 2019. The group forms in 1993 under the name Inearthed, and later operates under the Children of Bodom name as one of Finland’s best-known metal acts. Their recorded output includes ten studio albums, three live albums, two EPs, two compilation albums and one DVD.
Line-up and membership
The final line-up before the band ends consists of Alexi Laiho on vocals and guitar, Jaska Raatikainen on drums, Henkka Seppälä on bass, Janne Wirman on keyboards and Daniel Freyberg on guitar. Other members associated with the band include Alexander Kuoppala and Roope Latvala.
Career and recordings
The band’s third studio album, Follow the Reaper, is the first to receive gold certification in Finland, and the later studio albums follow similar commercial success. The next four albums debut at number one on the Finnish album charts and also appear on the US Billboard 200. Children Of Bodom sell more than 250,000 records in Finland, making them one of the country’s best-selling music acts.
Final years and legacy
In 2019, the band plays its final concert in Helsinki, titled A Chapter Called Children of Bodom, before disbanding. After the split, Laiho and Freyberg form Bodom After Midnight in 2020. Alexi Laiho, the founding member and principal songwriter, dies in December 2020.
