Chesney Hawkes is a British pop singer, songwriter and occasional actor from Windsor, United Kingdom. Born in 1971, he is best known for his 1991 single “The One and Only”, a pop rock hit that reaches number one in the UK and the Top 10 in the United States.
Early life and family
Hawkes is named after comedian Chesney Allen. He is the son of Len Hawkes, who is a member of The Tremeloes, and actress Carol Dilworth. He has a sister, Keely, and a brother, Jodie.
Career
His career rises in 1991 when he appears in the film Buddy’s Song with Roger Daltrey and Michael Elphick. In the film, he plays Buddy Clark, a young man trying to make his way in the pop world with the help of his father Terry, played by Daltrey.
“The One and Only” remains his signature song. It spends five weeks at number one and stays in the UK top twenty throughout the decade, making it one of the most successful releases of the 1990s.
