Charlotte Carpenter is a British singer-songwriter from Northampton, England. She works in folk and draws on blues and indie elements in her writing and performance.

Releases

Carpenter has self-released three EPs and later follows this with a fourth EP, Take It All. An earlier EP, Whole, reaches No. 10 in the iTunes singer/songwriter charts. She also issues a download-only track, Siren Song.

Style and activity

Her songs are described as combining the directness of Laura Marling with the atmospheric approach associated with Daughter. Her later material is noted for a more abrasive, rockier sound than her earlier work. She develops her live performance alongside artists including Marika Hackman, Ethan Johns, George Ezra and Annie Eve.

Recognition

Siren Song receives airplay on Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6 Music show. Carpenter also attracts attention from Brum Notes, For Folk’s Sake and BBC Introducing.
