Charlie Winston

Charlie Winston Gleave is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and performer from Cornwall, United Kingdom. He works in folk, indie folk, indie pop and liedermacher, and is also associated with folk, acoustic, soul and chillout.

He has family connections in music: his older brother is singer Tom Baxter, and his sister performs as Vashti Anna. All three siblings use their middle names as stage surnames. Winston develops experience across the music industry through writing, recording and performing with other artists, including Tom Baxter, Daniel Powter, Medi and the Medicine Show, Miranda Barber, Sam Semple and Judy Tzuke.

In 2007, he releases his self-produced debut album, Make Way. He also tours with Peter Gabriel on the European summer tour after the album’s release.

Outside his solo work, Winston composes music for film, theatre and dance. His film work includes The Day I Will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto. His theatre credits include the Almeida Theatre and Nottinghill Gate Theatre, and his dance work includes Sadler’s Wells and Ballet Rambert.

He also appears on television and radio, including Top of the Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK, The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, and BBC Radio with Stephen Foster.

Winston performs with a band called the Oxymorons. The group’s line-up includes harmonica, bass, drums and guitar, and also features the Extramorons brass quartet.
