Charlie Sloth

Charlie Sloth is a London MC associated with UK hip hop, drill and grime. He grows up in Camden Town, in central London, and has been active on the underground scene in England since the age of 17. He is also linked with Grimey Limeys.

Early life and name

Sloth grows up in a difficult environment and has a background rooted in criminal activity, but he does not frame rap around gangs or crime. At the age of 10, he picks up N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton on cassette, which becomes an important early introduction to rap and hip hop culture. When he is 13, other children nickname him “Sloth”, initially as a taunt because he is overweight and often picked on; he begins copying his favourite rap verses and adopts the name himself.

Style

His approach to rap is presented as different from stereotypical gang-focused imagery, and he avoids glamorising violence in his lyrics.
