Charlene Soraia

Charlene Soraia is a singer-songwriter from Sydenham, United Kingdom, whose work is rooted in acoustic, indie and folk performance. Born in 1988, she begins playing guitar at the age of five and performs her first open mic night when she is eight. By the age of ten, she is a regular on the open mic circuit.

Early development

She is entirely self-taught as a musician. Despite not having the minimum requirement of a GCSE in Music, she wins a place at the BRIT School of Performing Arts. After joining the school, she stops performing acoustically and begins playing in a band called Retrospect.

Solo work

Soraia restarts her solo performances in 2008. She later releases an EP titled Daffodils & Other Idylls, which tops the UK Folk Charts on iTunes. She continues to perform shows around London in support of the release.
