Ceiling Demons are a hip hop and trip hop group from the United Kingdom, originally formed in North Yorkshire, England in 2011. The act begins as a tribute to a lost friend, and that theme remains central to its music. The group presents itself as an alternative hip hop trio and is made up of identical twin MCs Psy Ceiling and Dan Demon, with production from Beat Demon.

Style and influences

The group draws on the approach of The Streets’ Mike Skinner and the production style of DJ Shadow. Its music aims to capture direct human emotion through rhythm and rhyme, with lyrics and themes that focus on loss, life, escapism, desperation and unity. Their sound is also described through references to indie, metal and chillout influences.

Releases

The Ceiling Demons EP appears first, in December 2012, and receives positive reviews. Their debut album, Dual Sides, follows in December 2013 after a year of playing shows and recording in the Yorkshire Dales. The album is presented as a concept record that confronts the human condition through contrasting ideas and receives strong critical responses for its creativity, sincerity and emotional weight.
