Cee Lo Green, born Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, actor and television talent show judge from Atlanta, United States. He works across contemporary R&B, dirty south, funk, hip hop, neo soul and pop, and is associated with Primary Wave.

Career

He first gains prominence as a member of the southern hip hop group Goodie Mob, and later as one half of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley with Danger Mouse. He also appears in groups and collectives including Team Cee Lo, Dungeon Family, Soul Assassins, Scarlet Fever and Legends of Hip Hop.

After his work with Gnarls Barkley, he pursues a solo career, helped in part by popularity on YouTube. His solo material includes the single “Fuck You!”, later issued in radio edit form as “Forget You”, and the album The Lady Killer. He also releases the singles “It’s OK” and “Bright Lights Bigger City”.

Notable releases and chart success

Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” is his best-known international hit. It reaches number one in several countries, including the UK, and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. The duo’s album St. Elsewhere also performs strongly, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and number four on the Billboard 200. Gnarls Barkley’s second album, The Odd Couple, charts at number 12 on the Billboard 200.

As a solo artist, “Forget You” reaches number one in the UK and the Netherlands and number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The Lady Killer reaches the top five of the UK Albums Chart and the top 10 of the Billboard 200, and is certified gold by the BPI in the UK.
