carolesdaughter

carolesdaughter is the musical project of singer, songwriter and influencer Thea Taylor, originally from Oceanside, California. She gains an audience through TikTok, where her fashion, makeup, piercings and tattoos help define her public image. Her work draws from alternative pop, with earlier songs influenced by emo rap and cloud rap, and she later moves towards a less rap-oriented pop punk sound.

Early releases and SoundCloud period

Her debut single, “Too Fast,” is a collaboration with Dog and appears exclusively on SoundCloud in May 2020. Over the following months, she continues uploading songs to SoundCloud as her style develops.

“Violent” and later work

“Violent” is released on her 18th birthday and becomes her best-known song. She writes it about drug addiction, mental health issues and several stays in rehab, and it goes on to surpass 200 million streams on Spotify. It also marks the point at which she decides to take music more seriously as a career.

After “Violent,” she releases the 2021 singles “Trailer Trash,” “Please Put Me in a Medically Induced Coma” and “My Mother Wants Me Dead,” which reflect her experiences in rehab and in high school. These tracks are later included on her debut EP, Please Put Me in a Medically Induced Coma, which is released in April 2022.
