Cara Luft
Cara Luft is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter from Calgary, Canada. Born in 1974, she is known for her work in the Canadian folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys and later returns to a solo career.
She grows up in a folk-singing family in Calgary and begins singing and playing dulcimer at the age of four. At 11, she starts teaching herself guitar. Her performance style includes alternate tunings, fingerpicking and flat-picking approaches, and claw hammer banjo, and she sings with an alto voice.
Luft’s writing and playing draw on a mix of influences that includes Led Zeppelin, 1980s pop, church music and folk music. She is also associated with The Small Glories and ABC of Canadian Music.
