Cappella

Cappella is an Italian Italo-dance and Euro-dance group from Brescia, Italy, active from 1987 to the present. It is established by producer Gianfranco Bortolotti and works in electronic dance styles including bubblegum dance, EDM, electronic, euro house, eurodance and europop.

History

The group begins in 1987 under Bortolotti’s direction and becomes one of the best-known dance acts in Europe. Its catalogue includes a string of charting singles, with nine top ten hits and three number one hits.

Notable releases

“U Got 2 Let the Music” is its best-known hit and reaches No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1993. Other major tracks include “Move On Baby” and “U & Me.”

Line-up and activity

Later activity includes a relaunch led by Bortolotti with Lis Birks. In January 2022, Lis Birks steps back from performing and helps manage the group with Bortolotti. The lineup then includes Vikki Waters and Steve Lewis, and the group tours Europe from March to October. In May 2023, Cappella announces “Happy Phonk,” its first single in nearly 20 years. The release is followed by changes in the performing line-up, with Jay McCurdy leaving and Andrew “Aggz” Gidney replacing him, while DJ Aroxx joins to support the stage setup.
