Canterbury

Canterbury are an English rock band from Hampshire, in the United Kingdom. The group forms in 2005 and consists of James Pipe on guitar, Luke Prebble on bass and vocals, Mike Sparks on vocals and guitar, and Scott Peters on drums.

Early years and touring

The band spends its last years at school writing songs that later become material for its debut album. After leaving education in 2007, it begins playing more seriously and tours extensively across the UK and Ireland for the next four years. During this period, it moves from support slots for any available act to higher-profile tours with Billy Talent, Enter Shikari, Against Me, Twin Atlantic and You Me At Six, building a following across the country.

Debut album

In 2009, Canterbury self-release their debut album Thank You. The band makes the record available as a free download through its website, with the aim of getting the music to as many listeners as possible. The album receives strong reviews in the national press and expands the band’s profile from a local following to a wider underground presence in the UK music scene. It is downloaded more than 35,000 times.

Later activity

After Thank You, the band works on a follow-up release while taking time away from touring to write and record. Canterbury also plays a small number of UK festivals.
