Cantaloop

Cantaloop is a German choir from Hamburg that has been active since 2009. It is associated with “iFunk”, a style it describes as a mix of hip-hop, funk, jazz and electronic elements.

Line-up and sound

The group is fronted by Dannie Dee, with 100c on guitar, Paulo De’ Wooton on bass and Beef on drums. Its live set also includes additional players on saxophone or trumpet, along with guest performers. The act’s material includes the track “Real Thing” and the live favourite “Propa”.

Performances and releases

Cantaloop tours and plays club and festival dates, and has supported several established acts. It appears at major festivals and venues including Glastonbury Festival, where it performs on the Jazz World and Avalon stages, Montreux Jazz Festival, Blue Balls Festival, Moods in Zurich, The Flechedor in Paris, Paradiso in Amsterdam, Larmer Tree Festival, Vicar Street in Dublin, Barrowlands in Glasgow, Ashton Court in Bristol, Jazz Café in London, Cargo in London, Carling Academy in Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol, and Rock City in Nottingham.

The group also completes a 25-date tour across Switzerland and Europe, and circulates white-label remixes of “Real Thing”, including a version by The Fun Lovin’ Criminals. Its third album, I.C.H.I.L.E., is recorded with Gavin Monaghan, whose credits include The Editors, Nizlopi and Carina Round.
