Cameron Pierre

Cameron Pierre is a London-born jazz guitarist who is raised on the Caribbean island of Dominica. He begins playing guitar at sixteen, teaching himself the instrument, and first establishes himself in reggae before moving more fully towards jazz.

Early influences and musical development

His early listening includes Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff and other artists from Jamaican popular music, as well as Stevie Wonder. As his musical taste develops, he discovers George Benson and Charlie Christian, then Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, all of whom help shape his move towards jazz.

Career

Pierre works with Jamaican artists including Clint Eastwood & General Saint, Barrington Levy and Dennis Brown. He becomes active on the calypso, reggae and jazz circuit in London, and later tours internationally with Courtney Pine’s band.
