Callaghan
Callaghan is a British female singer-songwriter, born in Boston, Lincolnshire in 1986 and originally from Lincolnshire. She is a pop and acoustic artist with a background in singer-songwriter material, and she performs in London and Nashville.
Early life and training
She comes from a musical family. Callaghan is classically trained on flute from the age of six, and later moves towards singing and piano. By the age of 14, she is writing songs and making regular trips to London to record with different producers.
Move to London and early releases
At 18, Callaghan relocates permanently to London to live with her sister. During this period, she records a series of independent EPs and performs across the city at venues including the Bedford, the Regal Room, the Royal National Theatre and the 100 Club. The move is also marked by modest living circumstances, with her sister’s flat so small that she sleeps under the kitchen table.
Recording in the United States
In 2009, Callaghan contacts producer Mullins through MySpace while looking for a producer, and he agrees to work with her on what becomes a rare collaboration. An initial recording trip to Atlanta produces three songs, and in 2010 she relocates there to complete a full-length release.
Other acts using the name
The name Callaghan is also used by a Spanish rock group based in Madrid and by a punk band from Chicago, Illinois, whose releases include a self-titled album and the EP Fired a Blank.
